STEP is a free service that allows U.S. citizens and nationals traveling and living abroad to register their trip with the nearest U.S. Embassy or Consulate. Travelers are encouraged to enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to receive alerts and make it easier to locate them in the event of an emergency.
