According to Law N.º 8720, the Law for the Protection of Victims, Witnesses and other Subjects Involved in Criminal Proceedings, victims of human trafficking in Costa Rica have several rights:

  • Right to the protection of their physical and emotional integrity
  • Right to receive appropriate, accessible and safe accommodation and coverage of their basic needs of food, clothing and hygiene
  • Right to free healthcare services, including specialized therapies and treatments
  • Right to receive clear and comprehensible information about their rights
  • Right to have legal and psychological assistance
  • Right to identity and privacy protection
  • Right to remain in the country, to the exoneration of any fee, or tax burden in the issuance of immigration documents. Check it in article 37 of the Law.
