Important.

Until April 5, 2023, passengers entering or transiting through Canada whose first point of embarkation is China (People's Rep.), Hong Kong (SAR of China) or Macau (SAR of China) must have:

  • A negative COVID-19 antigen, NAAT or PCR test result performed no later than 2 days prior to departure from the first point of embarkation; or
  • A positive COVID-19 test result performed more than 10 days but less than 90 days prior to departure of the first point of embarkation.

This does not apply to passengers under 2 years of age.

Most travelers need a visitor visa to travel to Canada. You may also need one if you are passing through a Canadian airport on your way to your final destination.


You need a visitor visa (also called a temporary resident visa) which is an official document that is affixed to your passport. It proves that you meet the necessary requirements to enter Canada. It costs from $100.


You can stay up to six (6) months in Canada. Although the final amount of time will depend on the immigration officer. They must write the amount of time in your passport or give you a document called a visitor's record where you will see the final date of departure.

The process to apply for the visa is through the internet. You can apply on paper if you are unable to apply online due to a disability, or are traveling with an identity or travel document issued to a refugee, stateless person or non-citizen.


Visa application requirements:

  1. Have a valid travel document, such as a passport.
  2. Be in good health
  3. Not have a criminal record or any immigration-related case.
  4. Convince an immigration officer that you have ties - such as a job, home, financial assets or family - that will take you back to your home country.
  5. Convince the immigration officer that you will leave Canada at the end of your stay.
  6. Have enough money for your stay.
  7. The amount of money you will need will depend on the length of your stay and whether you will be staying in a hotel or with friends or family.
  8. You may need a medical examination and a letter of invitation from someone living in Canada.
  9. Check the list of documents you need depending on your situation.
  10. Take into account if you are traveling with minor children.

  • Some people are inadmissible to Canada, which means they are not allowed to enter the country. Visa application:

1) Basic immigration requirements to apply for a visa:

  1. Travel History. Include copies of your visa or passport.
  2. Detailed itinerary. Have a copy of the trips, tickets, etc.
  3. Detailed bank statement of the last six months, this to know if you have enough money to make the trip.
  4. Identity document: passport. Have a color copy of your passport. NOT admissible: any passport issued by Somalia; non-machine-readable passports issued by the Czech Republic; temporary passports issued by the Republic of South Africa and temporary passports issued by Venezuela.
  5. Complete form if traveling with family members (IMM 5645).

The first step is to register on the Government of Canada website, to have a secure account called IRCC for you to access all online immigration and citizenship services. 

The account will allow you to: Start an application; Submit and pay for any application; Receive message that has to do with your application; View the status of your application; Update your information.

  • Register with GCKey: GCKey allows you to securely access Government of Canada online services. You can include a username and password that you can remember. You must also create security questions. These steps keep your data secure and allow you to recover your account.

Steps

  1. Click Register with GCKey.
  2. Click Register.
  3. Read the Terms and Conditions of Use and click I Agree.
  4. Create a user name. Click Continue.
  5. Create a password. Click Continue.
  6. Create your security questions and answers. Click Continue.
  7. Click Continue to go to the complete registration page.
  8. Read the Terms and Conditions. Click I Agree.
  9. Enter your details and follow the steps to create your account, click here .
