Procedure Process

Work Permit: Foreigners wishing to work in Honduras need to obtain a work permit, which is issued by the Ministry of Labor and Social Security.

Conditions:

In most cases:

1) The employer must submit an application on behalf of the foreign worker and provide a number of documents, such as a copy of the worker's passport, his or her criminal record certificate and professional title.

  • Work Visa: Foreigners who obtain a work permit need to obtain a work visa in order to enter and work in Honduras.
  • To obtain a work visa, an application must be submitted to the Honduran embassy in the country of origin, providing a series of documents, such as the work permit, the work contract and the worker's passport: More details here.
  • Tax Registration Certificate: Foreigners working in Honduras need to obtain a Tax Registration Certificate (RTN) in order to pay taxes in the country. This certificate is obtained from the Ministry of Finance and must be requested by the employer on behalf of the foreign worker. More details here.
  • Immigration registration: Foreigners working in Honduras need to register at the local immigration office. The registration must be done by the employer on behalf of the foreign worker.

2) Foreigners with legal residence in Honduras:

  • Photocopy of the Certification of the Resolution issued by the Secretary of Governance, Justice and Decentralization, or the Special Permit of Permanence issued by the National Institute of Migration.
  • Photocopy of the Certification of Registration as a foreigner issued by the National Institute of Migration Photocopy of the Identification Card as a foreigner issued by the National Institute of Migration (CURRENT).
  • Proof or original job offer issued by the employer who has employed you or who will provide you with work.
  • A recent photograph, passport size Proof of incorporation to the respective professional association, in the case of professionals subject to the Law of obligatory Professional Membership for the exercise of the profession.
  • Application with General Data (the application form can be found at www.trabajo.gob.hn-organizaciones-direccionesgenerales-DirecciónGeneral de Empleo-formatos.

Important:

  • The documentation must be presented at the Governmental Civic Center, building cuerpo bajo B, 6th floor, General Directorate of Employment / Department of Labor Migration, or submit it scanned in a complete and clear form to the mail secretariaadministrativadge@trabajo.gob.hn .
  • All the photocopies must be authenticated by a notary. The photocopies can be presented in only one authentication. The power of attorney must be authenticated apart from the photocopies.
  • If you are renewing a work card for a foreigner, you must attach a photocopy of the previous work card, and you may keep your documentation as long as your immigration status has not changed, otherwise you must present all the required documents as a new one.
