All minors have the possibility to go to any health center or hospital and be treated free of charge under the same conditions as Costa Rican nationals. This is stated in Article 41 of the Code of Children and Adolescents: "Minors shall enjoy direct and free health care by the State". For adults, there are two situations: Migrants in an irregular situation may only have access to emergency services. Migrants in a regular situation/asylum seekers/refugees must pay voluntary insurance in order to receive health care by having access to the services of the Costa Rican Social Security Fund (Caja Costarricense de Seguro Social).
